A solar carport is a freestanding, elevated roof system designed to house high-efficiency photovoltaic (PV) modules above a parking area. Unlike rooftop solar, it uses specialized steel or aluminum structures to create covered parking spaces without relying on existing building roofs. The top surface is fitted with monocrystalline silicon or bifacial solar panels (typically 550W to 670W), while the space below remains fully usable for parking.

These structures, also known as solar parking sheds, protect cars from UV radiation, rain, snow, and extreme heat, thus reducing interior temperatures and extending vehicle lifespan. Simultaneously, they generate clean, renewable electricity during the day—making them a dual-purpose solution for modern urban and commercial spaces.
